Gloucester Republicans nominate slate of candidates in packed meeting

What some have called a record turnout attended last Thursday night’s mass meeting of the Gloucester Republican Committee to nominate candidates for local office to represent the party in the Nov. 8 general election.

Warren Deal, interim chair of the meeting, said 467 registered to vote, and even more attended, filling Botetourt Elementary School’s cafeteria from front to back.

Each nominee was given an opportunity to speak, and those who nominated them were given the opportunity to say a few words about their candidate being the best choice.

Uncontested nominations included Tommy Wheat for the Abingdon district representative to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors; Chris Hutson for the Gloucester Point district representative to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors; Kevin Wilson for Commissioner of the Revenue, and Tara Thomas for Treasurer.
