Gloucester Relay working toward $75,000 goal

Nearly 160 people attended Gloucester’s Relay for Life event Saturday at the Lighthouse Worship Center, Ordinary, raising just over $7,500 in the eight-hour event. With the money raised on Saturday, the Gloucester Relay is still $13,000 short of reaching its goal of $75,000 during 2016, although more fundraising events are coming up.

According to event lead chairman Melissa Edwards, even though it rained part the way through the Relay, the event still turned out wonderful overall.

Rain moved into the area just after 4 p.m. Saturday, forcing the event to move from the back field behind the church into the building. “Once we moved inside, the event was very intimate,” Edwards said. “The Mullins Sisters were awesome, and they played for our Luminaria Ceremony, their song, ‘You’re Still Here,’ which brought tears to everyone’s eyes.”
