Denise M. Carter of Ware Neck has been named April Artist of the Month by the Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews. Her exhibit consists of four large quilts and some smaller pieces of quilted art.
An employee of Gloucester’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, Carter is a quilter, painter, and sketch and mixed media artist. She enjoys taking things apart visually and mentally, and then creating blueprints in her mind before beginning to create a piece of art, said a press release. Some of her favorite subjects include whales and other marine mammals.
Carter began quilting in 2001, during the 350th celebration of Gloucester County. The quilt show at the celebration captured her interest and imagination.
The exhibit may be viewed in person in the school’s Art Speaks Gallery at 279 Main Street, Mathews, or online at www.bayschool-arts.com.
