Gloucester Public Schools to say farewell to Records, Duncan

Gloucester County Public Schools will say farewell to school board chairman Charles Records and school board deputy clerk Betty Jane Duncan with a reception from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the T.C. Walker Education Center.

Records was elected to the board as an unopposed candidate for an at-large seat in 2013. He served as vice chair in 2015 and 2016 and this year as chair, and decided not to seek a second term. 

Duncan began her 46-year tenure with public schools in Mathews County in 1971, when she was appointed to a position in the school board office. She left Mathews for Gloucester in 1990 when she joined the staff at Gloucester High School.

Duncan was appointed as the Gloucester School Board’s deputy clerk in 1992 and moved from GHS to the board office as the administrative associate to the director of student services. She retired from that post in 2001 but remained in the deputy clerk’s position, from which she is now retiring.
