Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism has a number of upcoming programs.
CULINARY CLUB: A four-week mini session of the International Cuisine Culinary Club for ages 16 and older will be held on Wednesdays (from 2-4 p.m. or 5:30-7:30 p.m.) on Wednesdays from May 6-27 at the Stewart Building. Participants will explore international cuisine, characteristic cooking practices and traditions. The fee is $55 and the deadline to register is May 4.
GYMNASTICS: Gloucester PRT is sponsoring Gymnastics Trials as a one-time experience to help determine your child’s interest before enrolling in a full session (ages 3-16). Sessions offered at Botetourt and Achilles. Check the Gloucester PRT website for a full list of offerings.
FREE FLOW YOGA: Free Flow Yoga will be held on Tuesdays in May from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. at Whitcomb Lodge, Beaverdam Park. The fee is $40 for the whole month or $9 per drop-in session.
SOCCER: An inclusive soccer day event, hosted by the Gloucester High School Key Club and sponsored by Gloucester PRT will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Abingdon Park. This event is designed for individuals with special needs of all ages and abilities to come together, enjoy the game, and experience the joy of teamwork. This program is free, but participants are asked to register online by May 10.
THE FULL HIKE: The Full Hike, an approximately 9-mile hike from one end of Beaverdam Park to the other, will be held on Saturday, May 16, beginning at 9 p.m. Participants will meet at the park’s main entrance at 8:45, where they will be shuttled to the Fary’s Mill Road park entrance. The registration fee is $5 and the deadline is one week before the hike.
SENIOR BINGO: Bingo for ages 50 and over will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, May 27, at the Stewart Building on Main Street. Winnings are prizes, no cash. The fee is $10 and the deadline to register is May 26.
BEST YEARS TRIP: A Best Years Trip to Cape Charles will be held on Thursday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Spend the day on your own strolling the streets and have lunch along the way. The fee is $35 and the deadline to register is May 28.
TEE BALL/WIFFLE BALL: Youth Tee Ball and Wiffle Ball for ages 3-7 will be held in June. Practices and games will be at Ark and Abingdon parks. For more information on ages, dates and fees, see the Gloucester PRT website.
FREE FISHING DAY: The state Department of Wildlife Resources and Beaverdam Park are sponsoring a free day of fishing for children at Beaverdam Park on Sunday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. No freshwater fishing licenses are required statewide during the first weekend in June. There will be a Conservation Police Officer on site, with fishing poles and bait provided to registered participants. After fishing, lunch will be provided by the Abingdon Ruritan Club. This program is free, but register online by May 31.
BEST YEARS SOCIAL: Gloucester PRT is sponsoring a free June Best Years Social for ages 50 and over on Tuesday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Beaverdam Park’s Whitcomb Lodge. Come on by and enjoy light refreshments and a great time socializing, learning about upcoming trips and helping us get the word out about these trips, a release stated. ADULT FIELD HOCKEY: Adult Pick-Up Field Hockey will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sundays at the Old Page Grounds Hockey Fields until May 10 with ongoing registration and drop-ins welcome. For ages 18+. Visit the website for more information.
PICK-UP BASKETBALL: Adult Pick-Up Basketball will be held on Friday evenings in June and July at Ark Park with ongoing registration and drop-ins welcome. For ages 18+.
PARK AFTER DARK: Park After Dark will be held on Friday, June 26, from 8-11 p.m. at Beaverdam Park’s main entrance. Participate in fishing, boating, biking or hiking after hours. All activities require head lamps. The fee is $5 and all rental fees apply; the deadline is June 19.
DOLPHIN WATCHING: A Best Years Trip to Virginia Beach for dolphin watching will be held on Wednesday, July 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fee is $70 and the deadline to register is June 24.
