Gloucester previews: A look at the year ahead

One of the major challenges Gloucester County will face in 2015 will be equalizing the tax rate, since the latest general reassessment that became effective Jan. 1 showed a 2.2 percent tentative reduction in tax revenue.

Also, according to Gloucester County Administrator Brenda Garton, developing the fiscal year 2015-16 budget will be a challenge as the county will have to address state and federal funding sources that continue to decline. Yet another factor that will play into the development of next year’s budget are increases related to debt service and the opening of the new Page Middle School.

Last week, Garton worked with the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors to develop a strategic plan to help guide county priorities and services and develop a corresponding staff action plan.
