Gloucester Point convenience store has second big lottery winner

The second big winner to purchase his Virginia Lottery scratcher ticket from the same Gloucester Point convenience store in the past couple months claimed his prize last week.

Marcell Parker of Newport News claimed the top prize in the 20x the Money game, winning his choice of $1 million paid out over a 30-year period or a cash option of $537,393 before taxes. He chose the cash option.

Parker bought his ticket at the Stop & Go at 1505 George Washington Memorial Highway, the same store where Johnathan Hirtenstein of Gloucester Point won $2.68 million, before taxes, in another Virginia Lottery scratcher game in December.

After seeing the sign outside the store announcing the earlier lottery winner, “something inside me just said …‘Try the $10 ticket.’” Parker said.

So, after already going into the store, the Newport News man turned around, went back in and bought a 20x the Money ticket. When he scratched it, he discovered he’d just won the $1 ...
