Gloucester parade kicks off busy holiday weekend

’Tis the season for holiday happenings as both Gloucester and Mathews counties have a full lineup of activities scheduled for this weekend.

It all starts on Saturday with the Gloucester Citizens’ Christmas and Holiday Parade, which will step off at 3 p.m. from Main Street Center and will continue to Botetourt Elementary School.

This year’s parade will honor longtime Gloucester resident and historian Bill Lawrence.

Following the parade, Gloucester’s Christmas tree will officially be lighted inside the colonial court circle. The tree lighting, hosted by the Gloucester Main Street Association, will include Christmas caroling by the Botetourt Elementary School Student Choir beginning at 5 o’clock.

At the same time, the Mathews Community Christmas Tree lighting will be held on the Court Green across from Southwind Café.
