Gloucester nine beats Shelly, 21-1

100 YEARS AGOThursday, July 14, 1921from the Gloucester Gazette

The baseball team of Gloucester C.H. covered itself with glory in a contest with the Shelly team at Shelly, Saturday, winning the game by a score of 21 to 1. The village team, of which Mr. George DeHardit is manager, has been greatly strengthened by the services of Rev. Douglas Neff and Rev. Paul Buckles, the young ministers demonstrating that they are full of “pep” on the baseball diamond as well as in the pulpit. The batteries in Saturday’s game were Catlett and Pace for Shelly; Neff and Kemp for Gloucester. The outstanding feature of the game was Neff’s pitching, which had the Shelly men guessing at all times.
