Gloucester Museum Foundation completes survey book project

The Gloucester Museum Foundation has recently completed a survey book project with the publication of three books: “Gloucester County Survey Book A (1733-1806),” “Survey Book 1 (1817-1852)” and “Survey Book 2 (1849-1872) Plats Overlaid Over GIS Parcel Maps.” They were compiled by William L. Lawrence and Nathaniel T. Glasgow. The digitizing of the first two Gloucester County survey books, which has been a desire of many surveyors and historians over the years, has finally been accomplished. The project was possible due to the help of former County Administrator Carol Steele and former Clerk of Circuit Court Cathy Dale. Steele had a large scanner moved to the Gloucester Courthouse basement, while Dale received permission from Judge Jeffrey W. Shaw to have the record books carried to the basement for scanning.
