Gloucester, Mathews residents among newest state troopers

Michael B. LeSage of Port Haywood, and Justin Lee Sproston of Gloucester, are among 59 new Virginia State Troopers who graduated Friday at the State Police Training Academy in Chesterfield.

LeSage has been assigned to York County. He served as the class secretary and treasurer, said Corinne Geller, state police spokeswoman.

Sproston has been assigned to Mathews County.

Geller said the new troopers began 29 weeks of academic, physical and practical training in March, receiving more than 1,300 hours of classroom and field instruction. The work covered more than 100 subjects, she said.

In the final phase of training, each trooper will spend an additional six weeks paired up with a Field Training Officer learning his or her new patrol area. ...
