Gloucester man wins $1 million in Powerball

James Moren III of Gloucester, doesn’t play the lottery very often. But when he stopped to buy groceries and noticed other customers lining up for a chance at the Powerball jackpot, he decided to get in the game.

“I had to take a swing at it,” he said.

That swing turned into a home run when his ticket ended up matching the first five numbers in Saturday’s Powerball drawing to win $1 million.

“I couldn’t believe it at first,” he said. “My only concern was keeping that little piece of paper safe.”

Moren bought his winning ticket at the Gloucester Food Lion. On Wednesday, he returned to the store to receive his check from the Virginia Lottery. The local Food Lion store received a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
