The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a 51-year-old Gloucester man from a life raft Tuesday after he abandoned his 28-foot sailboat "Dove" 20 miles south of Atlantic Beach, N.C.

Jay White of Gloucester, contacted the Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center at approximately 7:15 a.m. via a mayday call on a marine radio stating his boat was taking on water, according to a Coast Guard release.

Sector North Carolina sent three boats in response and a 47-foot motor lifeboat from C.G. Center Fort Macon found White on the raft he boarded after he abandoned his sailboat. The crew rescued White and recovered the raft at about 8:15 a.m. There were no injuries reported.
