Gloucester man pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter

A 30-year-old Gloucester man pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges related to a vehicle accident that took the life of 78-year-old Stephen Bartok of Hayes in February.

John David Acamo of Maryus Road pleaded guilty to involuntary DUI-related manslaughter in Gloucester Circuit Court. Acamo also pleaded guilty to the misdemeanors of DUI, second offense, and failing to stop at the scene and report an accident.

Gloucester Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey W. Shaw accepted Acamo’s guilty pleas and set his sentencing for Nov. 9. Shaw said Acamo faces a maximum sentence of up to 22 years of incarceration for the offenses.

According to state police, Acamo was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Guinea Road just after 4 p.m. on Feb. 18 when he crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2007 Jeep Laredo head on.
