Middle Peninsula Geospatial Imaging, a new business offering precision aerial data and site analysis, has officially opened in Gloucester. Its owner, Lucas Snyder, has a background in aerospace and precision manufacturing. He set up his new business after the company he worked for in Hampton went through a series of layoffs, he said. Snyder’s wife found a drone operations program at Virginia Peninsula Community College and suggested he take some classes. “I had to take a couple prerequisites for it, but I fell in love with it—it’s awesome,” he said. “The applications are just growing by the week; it’s such a busy and evolving industry. I just knew I needed to get in and make a splash.” Flying drones had been a hobby of his, getting together with family members to fly them around, but after starting his VPCC courses, Snyder quickly realized he could take it even further, so he decided to start his business.
