Gloucester man dies following construction accident

A Gloucester man died Tuesday following a construction accident in James City County. 

The man, identified as William Joseph Jowers, 60, was transported by medics to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center following the incident where he was pronounced dead, according to Stephanie Williams, James City County police spokesperson.

James City County Emergency Communications received a call around 9:40 a.m. regarding an individual that had fallen at a residential construction site in the 4700 block of Fenton Mill Road, Williams said. The preliminary investigation reveals that the man was sanding while on the second floor of the residence when he fell to the floor below onto a stairwell, she added.
