Gloucester Library to hold Black History Month programming

Gloucester County Public Library, Main Street Center, has announced several upcoming programs to honor Black History Month in February. For each Sunday “Soul” Session, learn about individuals who had a significant impact on the history and culture of Gloucester County. Julius Rosenwald and the Woodville School will be the focus on Feb. 1. The Woodville Rosenwald School Foundation and the Descendants Community Committee will have alumni share their personal stories of their experiences attending a Rosenwald School in Gloucester. On Feb. 8, hear the story of Irene Morgan of Gloucester who was arrested in Middlesex County in 1944 for refusing to give up her seat on an interstate bus. Her case reached the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled in 1946 that segregation on interstate travel was unconstitutional. Learn about Robert Russa Moton and Holly Knoll on Feb. 15.
