Gloucester lavender farm holds ‘Dessert Under the Stars’ event

Under the Stars Farm held its inaugural “Dessert Under the Stars” event on Saturday at the lavender farm located in northern Gloucester County. The event was an outdoor dessert contest featuring local chefs competing to win one of three crystal awards: the Judge’s Choice, the People’s Choice, and the Periwinkle Award, which went to the dish with the best use of lavender.

The six chefs were Maia Collins of Tie My Apron; Scott Hoyland, owner of Culture Café; Louise Wood from Peace Hill Farm; Eric Brewer of The Catering Company; Meaghan Koehler, and Connie Booker.

Chef Collins made a Lavender Triple Berry Cheesecake Mousse. The dish proved to be a popular when it won the Judge’s Choice Award. Chef Booker won the people’s choice award with her Lemon Blueberry Cake. The Periwinkle Award went to Chef Brewer for his Raspberry Lavender Clafoutis.

The desserts were paired with live music from Stones Throw, which played well-known hits throughout the evening.
