Gloucester landowners should see new real estate values soon

Gloucester property owners should see notices of their new real estate values in the mail as early as this week, according to Gloucester’s assessor Derek Green. The new reassessment will take effect Jan. 1 of next year.
Though Green didn’t get into specifics about how much property values throughout the county had changed during his presentation to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors Nov. 5 in the colonial courthouse, he did emphasize that by using advanced technology, he and his team have gathered more precise data about individual properties in the county than ever before.

Gloucester’s latest reassessment took effect in 2010, and at that time, faced much scrutiny, as a number of property owners, especially commercial property owners, found flaws in their reassessments.

Green said one of the first things he did when he was hired was to mail data cards to all owners of improved properties for review and changes. Those updates were then entered into the county...
