Gloucester Lacrosse closes season 5-5

Gloucester Lacrosse, a member of Hampton Roads Lacrosse league, closed its third season with a 5-5 varsity boys’ record, and three active teams: boys’ varsity and junior varsity, and girls’ varsity.

“We have seen great growth in our lacrosse program with about 70 high school student athletes,” coach David Guglielmo said, adding that the organization hopes to field additional teams in 2017.

The boys’ varsity squad finished in seventh place in the league, he said. Jackson Palas led the team with 30 points, 26 goals and four assists followed by William Neikirk with 28 points, 14 goals and 14 assists. Andrew Guglielmo led the team with 40 ground balls and winning 72 of 138 face-offs, and earned an all-district honorable mention. Jacob Ledbetter followed with 31 ground balls and winning 52 on 109 face offs, the coach said.
