Gloucester inmate struck by vehicle

A Saluda woman was charged with reckless driving Tuesday after the vehicle she was driving struck a Gloucester Jail inmate cutting grass with a jail work crew.

The accident occurred at 11:41 a.m. on Main Street near Fox Mill Run Drive in Gloucester. State police said a southbound 2011 GMC ran off the road and struck a male pedestrian, sending him over the highway guardrail.

The unidentified man suffered minor injuries and was transported to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital where he was treated and released. Gloucester Sheriff’s Office Major Ryan Cookson confirmed the accident victim was a county inmate with the GSO work crew. 

The driver of the GMC, Elizabeth Thomas of Saluda, was charged with reckless driving, according to state police. ...
