The Gloucester Historical Society has published two new books: “The Register of Abingdon and Ware Parishes, Gloucester, VA, 1830-1916” and “Births, Baptisms, Marriages, Deaths and Burials from the Register of Abingdon and Ware Parishes, Gloucester, Va. 1830-1916,” transcribed by Mary P. Liddell and William L. Lawrence.

The register book is a scanned reproduction of the original which is housed in the parish house of Ware Episcopal Church. The second is a transcribed version listing the births, baptisms, marriages, deaths, and burial records of the church from 1830 to 1916.

The register contains the records of the Rev. John Cole, 1829-1836; the Rev. Charles Mann, 1837-1878; and the Rev. William Byrd Lee, 1881-1921. The book was filled by 1916. Two entries, a death record in 1918 and the 1924 baptism of Mr. Lee’s grandson were added later. The confirmations and listing of communicants were not transcribed.
