Gloucester gives extra time for Thanksgiving

The Gloucester School Board made some slight changes to its 2021-2022 school calendar during its Nov. 9 meeting at the T.C. Walker Education Center to give teachers some additional planning time.

The changes include making next Wednesday, Nov. 24, a division closed day and making next Tuesday, Nov. 23, an early dismissal day for all students. The school division was already scheduled to be closed Nov. 25 and 26 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Also, Friday, Feb. 18, Wednesday, March 16 and Wednesday, May 11 will be early dismissal days for all students and Monday, June 13 will be an early dismissal day for elementary students.

During the public comment section of the meeting, school division teacher assistant Andrea Hawley suggested that students, teachers and staff would benefit from having the whole week of Thanksgiving off. Another speaker, Michael Fuscia, urged the board to maintain the usual Thanksgiving week schedule.
