Gloucester girls remain atop standings

The Gloucester High School varsity girls remain at the top of the Peninsula District softball standings with a 16-1 record going into their final regular season game at Warwick Friday. The Dukes are one game ahead of Menchville and Kecoughtan and will likely clinch the season championship when they meet the Raiders at Riverside Elementary.

Taylor Distefano, Makayla Jenkins and Noodle Allen combined on a no-hitter on Tuesday as Gloucester blanked Phoebus 14-0. Distefano struck out four in two innings, Jenkins sat down five batters in 1 2/3 innings and Allen struck out two in 1 1/3 innings pitched.
Jenkins smacked a two-run home run in the second inning to join the growing list of present and former Dukes in the 100 career hits club. She also had three RBIs in the win. Hannah Joyce had a pair of hits and Rhiannon Miller had three RBIs.
