Gloucester firefighters handle two blazes

Members of the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc. responded to two structure fires last week; one on Shell Road near Signpine and another on Indian Road.

The Shell Road fire occurred on Nov. 26 around 12:40 a.m., according to GVFRS spokesperson Hanna Carson. “Initial information stated that the fence next to the house was on fire,” Carson said. “Upon arrival, the structure was found to be a duplex with heavy fire showing from one side of the house.”

According to Carson, an attached garage and a detached garage were severely damaged in the fire, and there was also some damage to the first and second floors of the duplexes. The exterior siding of a neighbor’s house was also melted by the blaze.

She said there were occupants at home when the fire started, but everyone was able to escape without injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
