Gloucester father, son skate entire Capital Trail

Father and son Adam and Calvin Craven of Gloucester, accomplished quite a feat recently, when they skated the entire Capital Trail on rollerblades. The fully-paved trail spans 51.7 miles from Jamestown to Richmond.

Adam said while living in Boston he and his wife noticed how easy it was for his kids to ice skate. After moving back south to Gloucester, Adam said the family took up inline skating and skate almost daily.

Once the father and son duo skated about 12 miles on the trail and joked about doing all 51.7 miles, said Adam. What started out as a joke soon became a goal and the two started training.

Adam said they trained in increments to get their endurance and stamina up. After 12 miles, they began skating 26 and then 34 and 42 miles. The date for the nearly 52-mile trek was set the day before Calvin’s 12th birthday.
