Gloucester DAV chapter dedicates memorial plaza

A memorial plaza was dedicated last Wednesday during a Veterans Day ceremony at the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) headquarters located off Short Lane in Gloucester.

General Anthony Wayne Chapter 58 Commander Ron Cottrill said the concrete plaza includes poles for an American flag, a DAV flag and one flag for each of the branches of the United States Armed Forces—Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force and Marines—to be flown proudly.

The plaza, erected with donations from DAV members, members of the DAV Auxiliary and others, was dedicated to the sacrifices made by the members of the U.S. military, Cottrill said.

Cottrill’s wife, Carol, a member of the DAV auxiliary, helped organize the program. She said that there are many people to thank for making generous donations so the plaza could be built.

The plaza was erected in mid-October, and this was the first time that many of those in attendance at the program had seen the memorial.
