Gloucester couple launches farmers’ market

Thomas and Doris Wilson, along with their 12-year-old granddaughter Layla, have begun selling their produce locally, launching a farmers’ market just south of Gloucester Court House on property adjacent to the Gloucester Moose Lodge.

The family is currently in search of vendors to participate in the new farmers’ market, which will be held 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays through the end of December.

Thomas, known to many as T.J., started farming about seven years ago, mainly selling his produce at farmers’ markets in Hampton and Yorktown over those years. “I got tired of carrying my produce away from Gloucester,” he said.

The desire to allow his neighbors to buy fresh homegrown vegetables and those not “bought and brought” pushed him to begin a farmers’ market here. “We’re trying to make it a family event so families can have a time to come together with all different types of vendors.”&nbs...
