Gloucester County warns of phishing emails

Gloucester County has been made aware of an email scam impacting some of its customers. According to a release from the county, the contents of the message appear related to Planning, Zoning and Environmental permitting activity.
These emails are requesting payment and contain attachments of invoices that appear to have the county’s seal in the background of the documents.
These emails are not from Gloucester County and are being sent from a “usa.com” email address. Any official email from Gloucester County Government will come from a “gloucesterva.info” email address.
The county’s Department of Information Technology is investigating the origin of these emails and is advising anyone who receives this type of correspondence to delete the email and/or report the email as phishing through their own email provider.
