Gloucester County fire, rescue chiefs plead for full funding

Gloucester’s fire and rescue chief didn’t mince any words with county supervisors last week when he asked them to fully fund his squad’s budget for the next fiscal year.

Under the county administrator’s current budget proposal, both of the county’s fire and rescue squads are level-funded from the county at this year’s amount. 

However, during a work session on the budget Tuesday night, several of the board members appeared to be of a mindset to find a way to fully fund the fire and rescue departments’ request as well as the sheriff’s budget.

The Gloucester and Abingdon squads had requested about $350,000 above their current appropriations. The board is expected to adopt a balanced budget for fiscal year 2018 on Monday night.
