Gloucester County was apparently the victim of a ransomware incident, according to a statement released Wednesday morning by County Administrator Carol Steele.
In the statement, Steele said the county continues to monitor the impact of the incident.
“Upon discovery, we immediately launched an investigation and engaged leading outside cybersecurity experts to assess the scope and impact. We also notified state and federal law enforcement and are supporting their investigations,” she said.
“Our community’s peace of mind is incredibly important to us. We deeply respect the trust our staff and neighbors place in our organization, and we don’t take that responsibility lightly.
