Gloucester Christmas parade attracts 66 entries

While it was a bit chilly, the weather cooperated for the most part for the 2013 Gloucester Citizen’s Christmas and Holiday Parade, which was held on Saturday afternoon along Main Street.

 

“We had 84 registered and 66 participated, which I thought was excellent since the weather forecast was all over the place all week,” said Denise Carter of Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism.

 

“The groups in the parade were wonderful, so creative and enthusiastic,” Carter said. A change was made this year; instead of lining up along the street near Botetourt Elementary School, the parade switched directions, starting from Main Street Center.

 

“Both PR&T and the sheriff’s department felt that it was no longer safe to line it up in the street,” Carter said. “The Main Street Center is a much safer location and once folks arrived and saw the pattern, it flowed nicely. All in all, I think it was one of our best...
