Gloucester bull tops sale; breaks record

An Angus bull, GLC Peyton 531 804, from Gustin Land & Cattle near Cappahosic, was the high selling bull in the sixth annual Miller Gustin Bull & Female Sale on Nov. 16 in Harrisonburg.

The 15-month-old bull weighed 1,545 pounds and ranked in the top 1 percent for 11 traits of economic importance and in the top 10 percent for five more among over 246,000 non-parent registered bulls in the population, according to a press release.

The bull was purchased by Grimmius Cattle Company in Hanford, California, where he will be integrated into their bull stud for semen sales. Sale price was $30,000.

During the sale, 20 bulls were sold averaging $5,317. Bulls were sold into Virginia, California, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa and West Virginia. The sale manager was Jason Arehart and the auctioneer was Dave Mullins. The sale record for previous sales was $9,000.
