Gloucester Brewing Co. wins awards at state event

Mike Brewer, head brewer at the Gloucester Brewing Company, won two gold medals and a Bronze Best in Show for his entries in the Virginia Craft Beer Summit and Gala, which was held on Aug. 11 at the Farm Bureau Center in Doswell.Nearly 500 brewers and craft beer enthusiasts gathered at the center to kick off Virginia Craft Beer Month at the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild event.
Brewer came back to Gloucester with gold medals for his Kolman Kolsch in the Kolsch/Leichtbier category and for his Providence Pilsner in the Pilsner category. But the biggest prize was the Bronze Best in Show (across 33 categories and 473 entries) for the Providence Pilsner.
The Virginia Craft Beer Cup is the largest state competition of its kind in the U.S. and the most important Virginia-only craft beer competition in the commonwealth, a release said. A record 128 breweries competed in this year’s competition which included 20 new participants.
