Gloucester bootmaker gets unique commission

When Glenn Youngkin is sworn in as Virginia’s 74th governor on Jan. 15, be sure to take a close look at his feet. That’s where he’ll be showing off a little bit of Gloucester County.

Steve Christo of Perrin Creek Custom Cowboy Boots in Gloucester was commissioned to make a custom pair of cowboy boots for Youngkin. The boots, along with a second pair for Youngkin’s friend and inauguration committee chair Bruce Thompson, are being made for the big day.

Christo said he was quite surprised when he was contacted by the secretary of Suzanne Youngkin, the governor-elect’s wife. He said he’s not sure how they knew to call him or why they picked him to make the boots, but he’s honored that they did.
