Gloucester board approves $66.4M budget request

The Gloucester School Board unanimously approved a $66.4 million budget for fiscal year 2015 during its meeting Tuesday at the T.C. Walker Education Center. The budget includes a $54.895 million operating fund and would require a $1.3 million increase in local money.

The budget would give a 2 percent raise to all employees and an additional one percent to bus drivers and aides, cafeteria workers, paraprofessionals, custodians and security personnel. It also adds 5.5 positions to include 3.5 teachers, an assistant principal for Page Middle School, and a teacher assistant.

The budget as approved will be forwarded to the county board of supervisors for its consideration. The school board is scheduled to meet with supervisors on March 27 to discuss budget issues.
