Gloucester beautification

Jay Hutchins (shown unloading daffodil bulbs in photo above) and Jonathan Wisely of Brent and Becky’s planted 60,000 daffodil bulbs along Route 17 in Gloucester on Wednesday, Dec. 30. The bulbs were donated by Brent and Becky’s, and the cost of planting was shared by the Garden Club of Gloucester and the Gloucester Daffodil Club. Quick approval from VDOT and Gloucester County Public Schools made the plantings possible, Hutchins said. About 20,000 bulbs were planted at the intersection of Routes 17 and 14 at Adner, another 30,000 in the median just north of the Fox Mill Centre intersection, and 10,000 more at the old Page Middle School site. Each site was planted with a mixture of several varieties of yellow daffodils with early-, mid-, and late-season blooms, for six to eight weeks of spring color.
