Gloucester beats Mathews in JV softball

Gloucester and Mathews faced off against one another on Tuesday in Tuesday’s JV softball game, with the homestanding Dukes winning, 11-1, although Blue Devil pitcher Keira Cannon marked a milestone of her own with her 100th strikeout of the season.

In the game, Lady Dukes Brooke Hall, Jazmyne Smith, Carly Thorson, Kenleigh Patton, Summer Goede and Gladys Sinko all brought sure bats to the plate. On the mound, Patton earned the win for GHS.

While Mathews did not capture the win, Cannon stepped on the rubber tonight with one thing on her mind—striking out her 100th batter of the season.

In the first inning while hurling to friend and former teammate Abby Haurand, the pitcher met her goal. “I am so lucky to get to share moments like this in these girls’ lives … speechless,” said MHS coach Tim Tillage. Grace Keel and Emilia Patterson have played integral roles as catchers in reaching Cannon’s goal for the season.
