Gloucester assessor accepts position in Albemarle

Gloucester County assessor Derek Green will be leaving at the end of May to take the position of assistant assessor in Albemarle County, with a population of nearly 100,000 residents.

Green was instrumental in turning around Gloucester’s reassessment department, which had previously been criticized for delivering what some considered a flawed assessment of county properties in 2010.

Green, who came to Gloucester in July 2012, said he faced numerous challenges when he took the post, including a lack of staff, a major change in software to use to generate the reassessment, and no standard operating procedure in place for department staff.
