Gloucester appoints 3 new teachers for 2020-2021

The Gloucester School Board appointed three new teachers for the 2020-2021 school year during its Aug. 18 meeting at the T.C. Walker Education Center.

Sharon Chura of Gloucester, was appointed as a seventh grade science teacher at Peasley Middle School and Amber Phelps of Gloucester, was appointed as a second grade teacher at Abingdon Elementary School. Both appointments were effective Monday.

Kristin Gillig Casallas of San Antonio, Texas, was appointed as a speech language pathologist for Petsworth Elementary and Page Middle School, effective Aug. 31.

In reassignments, Gloucester High School special education teacher Sally Hartley was re-assigned as the special education job coach at GHS, effective today.

Resignations were received from Botetourt Elementary third grade teacher Kristin Steele and Abingdon Elementary teacher assistant Laura Vaughan, both effective Aug. 24. Peasley cheerleading coach LeeAnn VanVranken also resigned.In addition, retirement was approved for Pe...
