The Gloucester All-Stars won the Cal Ripken 12 Major 60 District 1 Championship last week to earn a berth in the state tournament that begins today in Staunton.
Gloucester won its first district tourney game, 26-0, over Fort Eustis on July 1 at the Warwick Moose baseball field in Newport News. Brett Lindsay pitched a one-hitter, striking out 10 batters. Michael Diodato led the Gloucester offense with three hits and three RBIs while Jason Wood, A.J. Johnson and Lindsay had two hits and two RBIs each.
On July 2, Gloucester defeated Tri-Rivers with a 15-run shutout. Ryan Gallaccio pitched a perfect game and struck out 11 batters while Wood led the offense with a three-run home run in the opening inning. Johnson and Gallaccio had three hits and three RBIs apiece and Grayson Womble had a pair of hits and three RBIs.
Gloucester extended its streak on July 3 with a 5-0 win over the host Warwick Moose. Diodato pitched the shutout, allowing only four hits. Jeremy Gardner had a solo home...
