Gloucester Active Lifestyle Center expands services

The Gloucester Active Lifestyle Center on Main Street will returned to five-day-a-week service for local seniors beginning March 9.

In recent weeks, the center has been closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays while some sprucing up has gotten underway, said Kathy Vesley-Massey, president of Bay Aging, which oversees the center.

The center also is upgrading its programming, Vesley-Massey said, under the guidance of interim center director Pamela L. Allen. For example, Allen said she personally leads the exercise classes and is varying the types of exercise programs offered, sometimes incorporating balls and other apparatus into the routines.

Since joining the local center in mid-January, Allen said, she’s observed that “they all love bingo” as the seniors vie for small prizes.

Other programming includes ceramics, nutritional programs, Bible study, movies, and time to reminiscence. There’s also a pool table and several exercise machines.
