Gloucester 4-H members win at state fairs

Gloucester 4-H Hooves, Paws and Claws Club members were winners at the state fairs of both Virginia and South Carolina this fall. 

Novices in the swine division, Tristan Buswell placed fourth in showmanship and Dakota Dunlop-Gray was sixth in the Virginia State Fair. For their purebred Duroc breeding gilts (young sows), Charlotte, Tristan and Ian Buswell’s animals came in first, second and third, respectively, in each of their categories.

Also, Trenton Keener’s pair of purebred Leicester Longwool lambs came in second in the all other breeds category for lambs. 

In the swine competition at the South Carolina State Fair, Ian Buswell and Charlotte Buswell were awarded grand champion rosettes for their gilts in both junior and open shows in their age categories. 

Also, Tristan Buswell’s Duroc boar won grand champion in its age category and all won trophies for overall grand champion boar and gilt for their Duroc hogs. The Buswell family additionally won...
