Gloucester 4-H club places in regional competition

Gloucester County was well represented at the 4-H Horse Southern Regional Educational Competitions held July 28-29 in Clemson, S.C.

The Hippology Team from Saddle Smarts 4-H Club, consisting of Alyson Brown, Shelley Brown, Lilly Johnston and Sara Hood, took fifth place in the exam phase, fourth place in the stations phase, seventh place in the judging phase and fourth place overall.

Individually, Alyson Brown took sixth place in the stations phase, ninth place in the judging phase and fifth place overall. Individually, Shelley Brown placed first in the exam phase, second in the stations phase, fourth in the judging phase and first place overall.

In public speaking, Alyson Brown took sixth place with her speech, "The Effects of Horse Racing." She is planning to take part in the national 4-H competition in Louisville, Ky., in November.
