Gloucester 12U All-Stars advance to state tournament

The Gloucester Youth Baseball 12U All-Stars went 4-0 to win the District 1 Tournament on June 30. The team will compete in the state tournament beginning today in a 5 p.m. game against Rappahannock in Staunton.

The Gloucester boys started the District Tournament with a 10-0 win over the host Warwick Moose on June 27. On June 28, the team battled New Kent and pulled out a come-from-behind 11-10 win.

On June 29, Gloucester defeated Aberdeen, 17-1, to set up a rematch with New Kent for the championship on Sunday. Gloucester had an easier time in this game and beat New Kent, 7-1.

 

Tyler Hancock pitched a complete game against Warwick and Thomas Horsley was credited with the first win over New Kent. Matthew Hudgins threw a no-hitter against Aberdeen and Cody Shiflett went the distance in the championship game.

At the plate, Blake Taylor was 12-for-14 over the course of the tourney with four home runs, including a grand slam. Jordan Roane was 7-for-11 with a grand slam, Sh...
