Gloria “Fay” Stanford, 88, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, with her family by her side.

She was a native of Newport News, and retired from Riverside Regional Medical Center. She was a resident of Mathews. 

Fay was born Jan. 26, 1929 in Newport News to Carrie (née Savedge) and Herbert Councill.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Milton Councill,and two grandsons, Keith Stringfellow and Christopher Stanford.

She is survived by her three sons, William Stanford, Steven Stanford (Susan), Brian Stanford; her seven grandchildren, Terri Johnson, Melissa Allen, Rebecca Stanford, Maranda Shackelford, Carrie McDaniels (Gabriel), Hannah Stanford, and Isabella Stanford; her six great-grandchildren that include Killian McDaniels and Selena Shackelford. Also left to cherish her memory a host of nieces, a nephew and a loving sister-in-law, Jean Councill.

She was loved and will be greatly missed.
