Glenns Food Mart opens on Route 17

Glenns Food Mart opened for business in July on Route 17 at Glenns.

Owner Jay Patel of West Point said he purchased the former Get & Zip convenience store and has expanded its hours of operation and improved its product lines.

Patel said the deli is very popular, serving fried chicken, livers and gizzards, pizza and other hot food. The store also features typical convenience store items, from soft drinks and beer to chips, cookies and other snack foods.

Gasoline and diesel are sold at the pumps, and the store sells lottery tickets.

Patel employs four people. This is the first convenience store that he’s owned.

Patel has 17 years’ retail experience, having previously worked as a clerk and manager at several stores in Williamsburg.

Originally from India, Patel attended college in India and at Woodstock College in Georgia, where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
