GLADYS LEE COOPER

Gladys Lee Cooper, 97, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Dec. 7, 2017.

Gladys was born in Pennington Gap, Virginia, on Feb. 24, 1920. She and her husband Olen moved to York County in 1957 and then on to Gloucester in 1970.

She was blessed with two children, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She and Olen celebrated 65 fulfilling years together before his passing. 

Gladys was cherished by her family. She loved the Lord, her family, the Church, her Sunday School class, and cooking a big Sunday dinner.

Lovingly called “Mom,” she will be truly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olen Cooper; her sisters, Betty Piver and Jeannette Folks, and her brothers, Robert (RJ) and James Greene.

She is survived by her brother, Carl Greene and wife Rita of Seaford; her children, Shirley Adams and husband Bob, David Cooper and wife Lisa, all of Gloucester; grandchildren, Teresa (Tom) Gibson, Todd (Dana) Cooper, and Tommy (Andrea) Cooper; great-grandchildren, Harrison, Christina, Stephen, Lauren, Morgan and David.

The funeral service conducted by the Rev. Mike Gray, was held 2 at p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, with interment immediately following at Newington Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends following the interment in the reception hall at Newington.

In our mother’s memory, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.  

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Riverside Walter Reed for their kindness and compassion shown to the family.
