Giving Thanks: After 2 years apart, Mathews family reunited with dog

A Mathews family has a lot to be thankful for this year. Robin Rose and her family were reunited with their 8-year-old Jack Russell terrier, Kasey, who disappeared Nov. 19, 2013 from their Onemo home.

Thanks to the power of teamwork, rescue organizations, Gloucester Animal Control and social media, Kasey was returned to her family last Tuesday, nearly two years to the day that she went missing.

“We never gave up hope that we would find her,” Rose said. “We always drove the back roads of Mathews County calling her name, hoping she would hear us.”

Even until recently, Rose said she and her family regularly checked local lost and found and pet adoption sites to see if their beloved Kasey showed up on any of them. “We never felt like she was really gone,” she said.
