Girl Scouts receive grant for Burke’s Mill Pond site

The Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast received $1,000 from the J. Edwin Treakle Foundation, Inc., to build and install a hammock camping site at their Burke’s Mill Pond camp property located in Gloucester. The camp currently has tent and cabin camping facilities.

“We’re thrilled to have hammock camping added to Burke’s Mill Pond Camp,” GSCCC CEO Tracy Keller said. “We’ve placed hammock campsites at two of our other camps—Camp Skiminio in Williamsburg and Camp Darden near Franklin. The new camping option has been a hit among our Girl Scout campers. The experience seems to draw both seasoned and new campers. During an era when everyone is plugged in and relying on the digital world to stay connected, being outdoors and having new experiences, such as hammock camping, can help girls grow in so many ways.”
